VHS Archives: Spooky World: A Video Visit to America’s Horror Themepark

Welcome to Leftover Pizza Club’s first entry in our VHS Archives series! The goal here is to find weird, obscure and under-appreciated gems, trapped on the VHS format, and give them a new lease on life here on the internet. I can’t promise a super regular release schedule because it’s quite a bit of work, but we will do our best as time rolls on.

First up, a tape all about Spooky World - a haunted hayride located in my home state of Massachusetts. While Spooky World is still around, it’s evolved a bit over the years and these days it comes closer to being “America’s Horror Themepark” as proclaimed on the front of the box.

This 1994 tape clocks in at a brisk 22 minutes, and shows the humble beginnings of their Haunted Hayride. For whatever reason, Spooky World was a hot spot for horror celebs back in the day, with icons such as Linda Blair, Tom Savini and even Elvira making regular appearances throughout the month of October. I mention this because the tape is narrated by Jason Voorhees himself, Kane Hodder!

The spooky vibes are truly immaculate in this tape, and I think you’ll end up digging it as much as I do. You don’t need to be a Masshole to appreciate this nostalgic video visit, and you even have an opportunity to jam out to a live Monster Mash performance by none other than Bobby “Boris” Pickett (somewhere Grimey is shedding a single tear of joy).

Check out the full video below, which I’ve uploaded to our YouTube channel. copyright strikes be damned. You people are worth it!
